Bluesberries are an acoustic blues trio from Kuopio, Finland

The line-up is John Lee Ulmanen (vocals, harp, acoustic guitar, foot tapping & washboard), Kai Laitinen (National Guitar & bottleneck guitars) and Marko Kulhomäki (washtub bass & washboard). As you can see as well as guitar & harp, these guys use some primitive instruments. Originally John Lee Ulmanen and Kai started out as a duo and released “Street Blues” (BSBRS-001) with friends followed by “Live At Coffee House Gloria (BSBRS-002). “Live At Coffee House Gloria” was recorded live in Kuopio on 6 September 2001. It was mixed by Mikko Tegelman and Marko Kulhomäki who joined the band not long after. Bluesberries play classic blues tunes from both the Chicago and Delta blues traditions. Even though all of the tunes are covers, “Live At Coffee House Gloria” is an awesome CD. Some of the songs are “Black Rat Swing”, “Bring It On Home”, “Ï Can’t Be Satisfied”, “Preaching Blues”, “You Got To Move”, “Dust My/Statesboro Blues” and “Sugar Bee”. Kai plays some great amplified Dobro throughout. Washboard Blues at its very best. By the way a washtub bass is a bucket and string bass instrument.
